2020 ACUW Scholarship Information and Application

Important Note: ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED BY 2020 ACUW SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE.  

Undergraduate (high school and college) requirements: 

  1. First page of your parents and your (if applicable) most current Federal Tax Form 1040 or a completed FAFSA form.
  2. Two letters of reference sent directly from teachers, counselors, or professional people who can attest to your academic capability/know you well academically.  Reference letter should include their name, occupation, work organization, title, phone number/email address.
  3. One letter of reference from a professional in your potential field of study/interest who can attest to your ethics and character.  Reference letter should include their name, occupation, work organization, title, phone number/email address.
  4. Your high school/college grades transcript, including 2019 Fall Semester grades sent directly from your school.
  5. Copy of your SAT/ACT scores, if applicable.
  6. Briefly describe extra-curricular activities, offices held and school/community service.  Limit to 150 words.
  7. Personal statement as to why you should be awarded this scholarship, including your plans for serving the community after graduation.  Limit to 150 words.
  8. Statement about your interest in Chinese culture. Limit to 150 words.

Graduate Student requirements:

The ACUW graduate student scholarship will be awarded in any field of study to a student accepted into a master’s or doctoral degree program administered by the Graduate Division of the University of Hawaii at Manoa or a professional degree administered by the Shidler School of Business, William S. Richardson School of Law, or John A. Burns School of Medicine (JAPSCOM) for the 2020-2021 academic year. The scholarship award shall be made on the basis of scholastic achievement, financial need, good character, extra-curricular activities, and involvement in school and/or community service.  

The following must be submitted by April 20, 2020 for this application to be considered complete. 

  1. First two pages of your most current Federal Tax Form 1040 or a completed FAFSA form.
  2. Your college transcript for the last two semesters or approximately 24 semester credits of work in a degree program including 2019 Fall Semester grades sent directly from your school.
  3. Two letters of reference sent directly from your faculty sponsor or department chair and/or professional who can attest to your academic capability, disposition, ethics, and character.  Reference letters should include their name, title/occupation, organization, phone number and email address.
  4. Describe school/community organization activities, offices held and your responsibilities.  Limit to 150 words.
  5. Personal statement why you should be awarded the ACUW scholarship, including your plans for serving the community after graduation.  Limit to 150 words.
  6. Statement about your interest in Chinese culture.  Limit to 150 words.
