The Christmas Installation Luncheon on December 7, 2013 at the Hawai’i Prince Hotel, Mauna Kea Ballroom was definitely filled with joyful sounds.  Our vivacious and cheerful emcee, Zeny Muyot, welcomed a crowd of 187 to the Joyful Sounds of Christmas.

The Yeung Dak Lion Dance started the Luncheon and blessed all officers and members for a vibrant 2013, Year of the Horse.  Presidents Beverly and Blossom Mau and their mother, Past President Dorothy Mau, Alan Ho of Jade Dynasty Restaurant, and V. C. Chu of TECO fed the lions with lisees on bamboo posts.

2013 President Beverly Mau recognized her board and gave each a beautiful Chinese purse with a token of appreciation inside for their year of dedication and hard work.  The 2014 officers were installed by Mr. Victor Lim, otherwise known to the public as Mr. McDonalds.  It was definitely impressive.  2014 President Blossom Mau gave an ACUW gift to Beverly Mau for a job well done.  In return, Beverly Mau gave the new president her gavel and key.

On behalf of the City and County of Honolulu, Councilmember Stanley Chang presented a certificate to ACUW.  The State of Hawai’i certificate was presented on behalf of Emeritus Speaker Calvin Say to 2014 President Blossom Mau by our ACUW member Sylvia Ching.

Our members were blessed this year by Past President Thelma Nip who presented the English invocation and Past President Dorothy Mau who gave a Cantonese invocation.  The luncheon was also graced by the big man himself; Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus showed up just before lunch on their sleigh to share Christmas Joy with all of our members.

The Pacific Pearl Unit of Ladies Oriental Shrine performed two hula numbers.  The Hawai’i Education of the Arts Concert Choir, Pu’uwai Advanced Girl Choir, led by Executive Director Pamela DeBoard, also performed a number of Christmas melodies.

The luncheon was very lucky to receive numerous donations from ACUW members for door prizes.  The two grand prizes were donated by the Hawai’i Prince Hotel (certificates for two to enjoy brunch at the Prince Court).  Past President Sybil Kyi and Linda Young were winners of the two grand prizes respectively. Blossom Mau announced the distribution of centerpieces that featured gorgeous silk embroidered Chinese cheongsam and jackets that decorated bottles of cider.

On behalf of the Christmas Luncheon Committee, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Past Presidents Dorothy Mau, Beverly Mau, 2014 President Blossom Mau, the Hawai’i Prince Hotel, Flora Lu of Lucoral Museum, Alan and Sylvia Ho of Jade Dynasty, and all ACUW members who volunteered for this event and donated wonderful door prizes.
