October 2013 Message from ACUW Directors - Sybil Kyi, Chair

On behalf of the ACUW Directors, Betty Jong, Lois Mui, Jerilyn Jeffryes, Maura Yee, Lynnae Lee and myself, we thank the members of ACUW for their interest, questions and suggestions on the Policies and Procedures (P & P) we shared with you at the September meeting. After considering some revisions, they will be placed in ACUW’s website for easy access. Members who do not have access to a computer and wish to have copies of the P & P, may place their names on a sign-up sheet that will be set up by the registration table at the coming November meeting. We anticipate more P & Ps will be addressed in the future such as for academic awards, community services and participation in cultural events.

The Board of Directors (Officers and Directors) approved the Policies and Procedures at their August Board meeting except for the Finance P & P that will be finalized at the October Board meeting. The P & Ps serve as administrative directives for the Directors, Officers and Committee Chairs and can be changed at any time according to changing needs in ACUW. We hope that the P & Ps will clarify why and how ACUW carries out its activities and expedites the tasks of ACUW leaders whom ACUW members elect and trust to manage our programs. The purpose of the presentation of the P & Ps at the September meeting was to inform members and provide the opportunity for their questions and suggestions. There is no need for members’ ratification of the P & Ps as they are the Board’s management responsibilities. (By-laws, Article V, Sections 5.4-5.7).

Since I am in my last year as Director, I want to thank each one of you for your participation in ACUW. As a senior member who has served in many different positions in ACUW, I have enjoyed the “sisterhood” of our organization and would like us to maintain above all, the bonds of friendship and consideration for others that were modeled by ACUW’s founders.
