The ACUW Board is considering helping Wei Zhang, an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.  She is conducting a research to understand elderly Chinese community member’s perception of “successful aging.”  The purpose of this project is to evaluate how Chinese culture, immigration, and acculturation influence your perception and view of successful aging.

Eligibility Requirement to Participate:  All Chinese ACUW members that are 60 years and above.

Risks:  There will be no risk to you in participating in this research project.  Response to item B5 in the survey is optional.  All information will be kept confidential.

Benefit:  Upon volunteering to help with this survey, some of you will also be selected to participate in a focus group at another time and location convenient for you to respond to around 10 additional open-ended questions.  For your participation in the second phase, you will receive a Longs Drug gift certificate.

At our Sept. General Meeting a table will be set aside to obtain this survey, and to answer any further questions that you may have about this survey.

ACUW would like all members to participate.  It would be most helpful if all surveys could be turned in at the end of the meeting to help to expedite this survey in understanding the harmonious and healthy aging among Chinese elders in Hawai‘i.

On behalf of Wei Zhang, she would like to express her gratitude in helping her with this project.
