As Directors Chair, I would like you to know the six elected Directors and their assigned areas of responsibility for policy and procedures development and guidance. My primary duty is to give overall direction to planning the work in preparing a new draft document on Policies and Procedures for the anticipated ACUW 501(c)(3) Corporation. I also propose the agendas for the Directors meetings, conduct the meetings and lead recommended results to the Board of Directors for appropriate action. I hope to work with the Communications Committee to encourage improvements in website development and expand email communication with members.

Betty Jong, the Vice Chair, substitutes for the Chair in the latter’s absence. She will also work with the Records Management Committee to develop policies and procedures to access, select and store current and historic ACUW records. The annual transition of ACUW administration from one year to the next is experiencing serious gaps in information transfer, i.e. the red binders, and historic files have been lost due to past storage practices.

Lois Mui, Director Recorder, summarizes the minutes of Directors’ meetings and works with the three Outreach Committees, Community Service, Cultural Events and Scholarship Awards. Policies and procedures for these committees are important in enhancing and guiding the charitable and educational objectives of a 501(c)(3) corporation.

Jerilyn Jeffryes, Director Representative on the Finance Committee, works in this committee to ensure that financial policies and procedures are in order and required reports are made to the Board of Directors. As a member of the Finance Committee, she will also monitor compliance reports to be filed with the State of Hawai‘i and the Internal Revenue Service and audit reports, as necessary.

Maura Yee, Director, works with the Member Services Committees that includes Courtesy, Interest, and Membership. She is currently focusing on policies and procedures for year-round recruitment of members and such provisions as new member orientation and sponsor responsibilities.

Lynnae Lee, Director, because of her extensive work in completing the revised ACUW Charter of Incorporation and By-Laws for the 501(c)(3) IRS application, will guide the Legislative Committee to complete the process of printing the above documents when the application is approved. She will also advise the Directors, as needed, in their respective areas of policy and procedures development.
