Wow how time has just flown by!

Our next meeting in November will be ACUW’s Election of Officers for 2015. We all have busy schedules with work and family as well as maintaining a lifestyle that keeps us all occupied with our various organizations.  That is why we, the women of ACUW, are well able to multitask and keep ACUW as a working organization in the Chinese and local community. I am truly blessed to have your support throughout the year.

Thank you so much to Linda Young, Vice President for running the September meeting since I was indisposed.

I am grateful to all who have decided to take a position as officers in this wonderful organization.  Great job and Mahalo to our Nominating committee, headed by Chu Lan Shubert-Kwock, for their hard work in asking the many varied members to look closely in their heart and help carry on the difficult positions of running this organization.

The Community Service Committee, led by Dorothy Mau, has sent out checks to numerous non-profit organizations to assist the Chinese community and those less fortunate than us.  Checks went out to United Chinese Society Qing Ming Celebration, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Pālolo Chinese Home, Chinatown Business and Community Association, Chinese Heritage Center, Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels, Lanakila Multipurpose Senior Center, Hawai‘i Food Bank, and Hawai‘i History Center.  Dorothy is still collecting canned good and money donations for the Food Bank.

Our own Beverly Mau chaired the United Chinese Society’s Moon Festival held September 20, 2014.  It was wonderful to see Hong Jiang perform on stage – what a beautiful voice.  Cora Haberman, Cultural chairperson, with the assistance of Hong Jiang set up our moon cake demonstration booth.  Samples of moon cake were offered to the many attendees and everyone got to try their hand in forming the dough into moon cakes. It was wonderful to have different members volunteer to help out as well as those who always come – Vivian Ho and her mother, Dorothy Mau, Blossom Mau, Betty Louie, Chu Lan Shubert-Kwock, Darlene Young and Blossom Wong.

Ladies, exciting news flash:  our cookbook ACUW’s Family Favorites is completed.  It is a sight to behold.  Kudos to our Cookbook chairpersons – May Lee Chung and Dorothy Mau along with their committee members: Fran Kramer, who did beautiful work on the cover and insets; Bevery Mau, Blossom Mau, Millie Lui, and Ida Mai for their proofreading, typing and storage.  Our cookbook will make fabulous gifts for your entire family and friends as well as at least one for yourself.  The recipes are just yummy.

This past September we were able to honor and recognize all Past Presidents who attended our 4th General Membership Meeting.  XieXie to Dorothy Mau and Beverly Mau for assisting in presenting leis and flower bouquets to Canossa Choy, Betty Jong, Marjorie Lau, Pat Lau, Christine Ling, Peggy Ching, Lois Mui, Dorothy Mau, Beverly Mau, Thelma Nip, Jane Pang, Blossom Wong, Sandra Young and Susan Lee.

Chinese Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring their annual Splendor of China on November 1 - 2, 2014.  ACUW will have a booth setup with photographs and flyers to help the community learn more about our organization.  Cora Haberman, Cultural Committee chair will be looking for volunteers to sit at the booth for both Saturday and Sunday.  Please sign up to assist in the booth and enjoy the various activities other organizations will present.

Ladies, our Christmas Installation Event is fast approaching.  We will be celebrating the Holidays and installing the 2015 Officers on December 6, 2014 (more info to come).
