Boy, how quickly this Summer has gone.  I’m sure it’s been a very busy summer for everyone with graduations, family reunions, Chinese Association picnics and luncheons, as well as traveling to many different places for our vacations and just plain relaxation.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Angela Chang, Kwailin Sharon Fung, and Kimberly Hoi as new members to ACUW.  We look forward to having them as part of our organization and having them participate with us in all our endeavors to promote our Chinese heritage and culture.

ACUW’s Family Event will be happening on August 17, 2014.  We will be having a fabulous luncheon planned by Beverly Taira and Bertha Tomiyasu at Nastunoya Tea House.  Hope to see you all there with your family and friends for a day of great food, lively entertainment, and camaraderie.

United Chinese Society will be sponsoring the United Coalition Picnic on August 24, 2014.  All Chinese Societies and Organizations have been invited to participate.  Cost is $7.00 for lunch.  If you plan to attend, please contact Henry Lee (536-4631) as soon as possible to make your reservations and order your lunch.

The required paperwork for our 501(c)3 status with IRS has been completed,  thanks to the hard work of Lynnae LeeSusan Lee, and Jerilyn Jeffrys.  Much Mahalo to them for working diligently on completing the inquiry questions prior to August 10, 2014.

Vicky Ho and Betty Chang, along with their Scholarship committee members, have done a great job making the ACUW certificates, going through the many applicants and finding six (6) deserving scholars that we met at our June General Membership Meeting.

ACUW will be participating in the Annual Moon Festival at the Cultural Plaza sponsored by UCS on September 20, 2014.  Beverly Mau, Past President, is the United Chinese Society Chairperson.  We look forward in having ACUW volunteers to demonstrate making moon cake with the community.  Come join us at the Cultural Plaza to learn about the “Lady in the Moon,” make and eat moon cake, and enjoy the various entertainment planned.

Chinese Chamber of Commerce will be having their Splendor of China event November 1 - 2, 2014 at the Neal Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall this year.  ACUW will be having an informational booth at this event.  Please assist Cora Haberman, Chairperson, by volunteering your time and expertise.

The ACUW Family Favorites Cookbook should be going to print soon.  Dorothy Mau and May Lee Chung, along with their committee, are working hard to ensure our treasured recipes are print ready.  The cover and title pages are gorgeous thanks to Fran Kramer.  Remember to purchase a few books for yourself, family, and friends.  They make wonderful gifts and the holidays are just around the corner.

I hope you are all ready to participate in ACUW’s future.  We are looking for members to join in as part of the leadership as September comes along.  Chu Lan Shubert-Kwock, Nominating Chairperson will be asking you all to consider becoming a part of ACUW’s Board of Directors.  Without your help we may not be able to continue as an organization so think about making the time to be a part of ACUW future.  Elections will be held November 1, 2014 at our General Membership Meeting at Oahu Country Club.  This is your organization and we need your support.
