Happy Holidays Everyone!

I hope everyone and your families are well as the spread of the COVID-19 virus is still ongoing. However, we have decided to continue on safely by using Zoom to do our general membership meetings and activities. Our t-shirts are done so if you ordered one and did not get it yet, please contact Elvina Yamashiro to make arrangements for the pick-up of your shirts. However, if you did not order one this past March and would like to order one now, please contact Elvina as we ordered extra t-shirts for the future. Right now, the government mandate is we can only go out in groups of no more than five (5) unrelated parties as we are in Tier 2. We have to have less than 50 cases for 7 days straight and be under 2.5% for positive cases before we can advance to Tier 3.

Our Legislative Review committee led by Sandy Young has been very busy updating the current policy and procedures for the existing ones and creating new policy and procedures for each committee and officers and will be done by the end of this year. The revised Bylaws are with the attorney for review now.

Some of our members are still making cloth masks for various schools that have asked us to make them as we made cloth masks earlier this year for Navian Hawaii, formerly known as Hospice Hawaii. However, if you do not sew and want to donate the disposable masks, please contact Anna Chang and she will be glad to pick them up from you. We were also asked by Navian to make pillows so some members went down in early December to Navian to make pillows as they need them soon.

Since it will be hard to do a community service project by Zoom, we are asking the membership to consider thinking about a worthwhile non-profit organization where we can donate our community service funds to that organization. Please contact Cora Haberman, our Community Service chair, if you have any suggestions. We have the donation application which needs to be filled out by that organization.

I would like to thank everyone who did vote and again the 2020 Officers and Elected Directors will serve as well as the Committee Chairs. We do have two new Committee Chairs for Finance which is Shirleyanne Chew and the new Committee Chair for Scholarship is Rosemarie Woodruff, who also is our current Parliamentarian. I would also like to thank all the members who responded to the Survey which was sent out last month and also for giving me their responses so quickly.

I want to thank the membership for having faith in me to lead this organization in 2021 and also all my hard-working Board members, Elected Directors and Committee Chairs who will be supporting me and this organization for another year. It has been fun being your President in 2020 even though the COVID-19 cancelled a lot of our plans and I look forward to serving you again next year.

Please watch the news for the latest update on this virus outbreak and if you do not need to go out, please stay at home and be safe and if you do need to go out, please wear your masks and practice good hygiene habits and social distancing. We all need to cooperate so we can contain this deadly virus and keep our family, friends and community safe.

Take care of yourselves and stay healthy and enjoy the rest of your year as the holidays approaches and hopefully we can meet again in person sometime next year or at our 90th anniversary headed by Gretchen Jong and Serena Kyi-Yim, our President-elect.
